SA - Social Science Programme
What do the psychologist, the web editor, the lawyer, the history professor, the curator, the diplomat, the journalist, the political secretary, the coach, the PR consultant, the informant and the HR specialist have in common?
How can you affect the world and how does it affect you?
Get answers to a whole world of questions. What do the psychologist, the web editor, the lawyer, the history professor, the curator, the diplomat, the journalist, the political secretary, the coach, the PR consultant, the informant and the HR specialist have in common? They are often social scientists. This diversity of opportunities also reflects the Social Scientist's programme at Katedralskolan. Here you will study the difficult international conflicts, meet the villains of history as well as the occasional hero. You get to investigate what affects and changes the human condition. But you also get to read about how the human psyche works, get to know yourself and how you are shaped by encounters in life.
Something else you get that you will enjoy in the future, is knowledge in leading and developing groups. What governs our teaching is freedom of choice and variety. You are challenged by exciting questions and creative ways of working, but also by questioning old truths.
Once you have completed the Social Science Programme, you are well prepared for the University as you can think critically and make conscious decisions yourself. You can both ask the sharp questions and argue well for your cause.
Two national orientations and a free-choice guarantee!
Specialization Social Science
You delve into Social Science, Geography, Religion and History and see the connections between these subjects. This makes you understand the whole: How are decisions made? What is happening in the world? Why does change happen? Specialization Social Science is coloured by aspects such as democracy, ethics, human rights, power and conflicts. This is particularly evident in our annual UN role-play. For three days, together with your classmates, you will act as a diplomat to solve a major world problem.
You will work with both global and local issues. The outside world is constantly present; we make study visits, meet politicians, researchers, entrepreneurs and other socially engaged people. This makes teaching extra exciting. You develop your analytical acumen, and learn how to take responsibility for, and participate in the development of our society.
Specialization Social Science
Within the field of Behavioural Sciences, we partly shift focus from major politics and world history to the individual and the group. We have built our focus on people's meetings and what these meetings do with you as a person. You are commissioned to review society from psychological and sociological perspectives and read topics such as Communications as well as Leadership and Organization.
Of course, you also meet leaders, researchers and lecturers from the world outside the school. Specialization Behavioural science aims to be as communicative as possible and develop your social skills. You also acquire a very good platform for further studies.
The free choice is yours!
In an upper secondary school that is increasingly controlled, we have left 500 points (5-6 courses) that you decide on yourself. We do not believe in a package solution that is suitable for everyone but believe that you are the most competent person to decide on your studies. Through our very large selection of elective courses you can both go into depth in the subjects you are passionate about (e.g. History 3, International relations or Geography 2) and broaden your education with creative courses (e.g. Rhetoric, Photo, Film or Writing) or choose strategically smart courses for extended qualifications (e.g. Mathematics 3b and English 7). The choice is yours!
