Spyken - a certified United Nation school
In 2007 United Nation Association of Sweden (UNA Sweden) has initiated a certification for selected schools with an international profile.
Gymnasieskolan Spyken has been awarded UN school status for our collaborative work with other schools with the common aim of establishing a global awareness among our students, to address international issues such as human rights, terrorism and climate change.
Spyken was given its status as a UN school for its international profile, having many established international contacts and our determination to equip young people with democratic tools for creating a just, peaceful and sustainable future in a globalised world.
There is a variety of activities taken place in the certified schools, in partnership with the UNA Sweden. In Spyken, we practise the Model United Nations (MUN) yearly, which is an authentically simulated roleplay, which gives the students an opportunity to debate global issues from an international perspective. Delegations are also sent to participate in national and international MUNs in year 2 and 3.
We believe that this method inspires young people to become more involved in creating a better, more peaceful and sustainable future, in which human rights are respected and the individual can make a difference. We also offer international programmes and courses e.g. International Relations.
