Katedralskolan in Lund is the oldest school of Scandinavia. It was founded by the Danish king Canute (the Holy) in 1085. (Bear in mind: Lund and other parts of today´s South Sweden belonged to Denmark until 1658!)
In 1985 during the last week of May the school celebrated its 900th anniversary by a visit by the King and Queen of Sweden and the Queen of Denmark.
The school was housed in buildings quite close to the Cathedral until 1837 at which time it was relocated to its present premises at Stora Södergatan.
Today Katedralskolan in Lund is a modern upper secondary school. The number of students is approximately 1220. About 1150 these are taught on the premises at Stora Södergatan, the rest at Parkskolan, just a block away.
The number of teachers is about 100 and other staff 50. The students are distributed amongst
4 different programmes of study as follows:
3-year National Programmes
1. Business Administration Programme 120
2. Natural Sciences Programme 515
